GENUITY and Versant Partner to Enable Real World Commerce Via the Internet and Intranets. GENUITY, a Bechtel company, intends to license the Versant Web Propagation Framework for their GENUITY replication product to deliver the performance, availability and scalability required for true Web commerce. The two companies are developing an intelligent replication facility that will be a key differentiator for the world class GENUITY Internet backbone.

Versant Database Management System is Integrated with Evans & Sutherland's New Simulation Software Product. Developers and end users use Versant within Evans & Sutherland's new simulation software system, Integrator NT, to manage large-scale synthetic environments during database construction and real-time scene rendering.

NOVEMBER

Versant and OpenCon Systems Deliver Fully Object-Based Electronic Bonding Applications. Electronic bonding (EB) allows telecommunications carriers to share information across network boundaries for faster response to market and regulatory pressures. As their first fully object-based EB project, OpenCon and Versant supported GTE in delivering GTE's latest commercial EB offerings.

OCTOBER

Versant Object Technology Announces Founding Membership in The Intelligent Network Forum. The IN Forum is an open, non-profit communications industry consortium whose mission is to promote the continued growth and acceptance of Intelligent Networks. The IN Forum and Versant are promoting standards and increased technical collaboration to accelerate the development and deployment of Intelligent Networks worldwide.

SEPTEMBER

Spyglass and Versant Partner to Break Through Web Bandwidth Limitations. By integrating the Versant ODBMS as the core caching engine within the Surfwatch ProServer, Spyglass can deliver its customers profound performance improvements and thereby directly address one of the greatest challenges facing users of the Web today. The Surfwatch ProServer will be offered to all existing Spyglass partners including IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Computer Associates and others.

Organizations Choose Versant Object Technology For New Media Object Solutions. Five companies - EDS, DALiM, Passage Systems, Alliance Interactive and Animation 2000 - are using Versant's powerful engine to enable media-rich Internet applications for the pre-press, retail, and online documentation markets, among others. This announcement bolsters Versant's presence in the market for high-transaction Internet computing.

Versant Customer Wins Award for Best Object Application. Carnegie Group was awarded Best Distributed Object Application and AT&T was honored as an awards finalist at Object World West.

Versant Underwriters Exercise Over-Allotment Option. Versant's underwriters purchase an additional 310,500 shares of the company's Common Stock at $8.00 per share bringing the total net proceeds from Versant's recent IPO to approximately $14.9 million.

AUGUST

EDS Deploys Versant In Multimedia Asset Management System. Electronic Data Systems announces that it is using the Versant ODBMS in its industry leading Media Vault multimedia asset management system application.

Versant and SunSoft Drive Object Standards. The Object Database Management Group endorsed a joint proposal from Versant and SunSoft submitted to the OMG for standards-based connectivity between object databases and object request brokers.

JULY

Versant Object Technology Corporation Offers 2,070,000 Shares Of Common Stock At $8.00 Per Share. Versant Object Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: VSNT) becomes the first publicly traded object database vendor.

MAY

Versant Object Technology Files Registration Statement For Initial Public Offering of 2,270,000 Shares Of Common Stock. Cowen, & Co., SoundView Financial Group and Volpe, Welty and Company will serve as the company's underwriters.

MARCH

Versant Unveils Strategy To Deliver Object Solutions Across The Web. Versant announces its strategy to pursue the market for advanced object applications on the World Wide Web. Focused on Intranet and private market applications, the announcement includes an enhanced version of the company's Versant ODBMS, support for the emerging standards of Internet computing, as well as the alignment of world-class partners with Versant.

Versant Announces Internet Adapter And Support For Java. Versant announces its product extensions designed to offer high bandwidth transactional activity across the Internet. Specifically, Versant will release a Java interface to the Versant ODBMS, allowing organizations to manage and store Java applets, as well as use Java to supplement existing object-oriented development in C++ and Smalltalk.

Versant Aligns Technology Leaders to Deliver Distributed Computing Infrastructure for Intranet Applications. Versant announces agreements with leading technology and solutions providers to deliver the infrastructure required to manage complex business transactions on the Web. The partnerships are in three key areas of technology that are fundamental to delivering electronic commerce applications over the Internet: Web-oriented development and management tools, object request brokers and legacy access and integration.

AT&T Deploys Versant's ODBMS For Worldwide Internal Collection System. AT&T's General Purpose Collector, built with the Versant ODBMS, is responsible for processing and reconciling all internal voice service records for the large telecommunications supplier and allows the firm to deploy new services more quickly than in the past.

Passage System Deploys Versant ODBMS For Electronic Library. The Versant ODBMS serves as a key component of the PassagePRO on-line documentation system from Passage Systems, the end-to-end solution for all forms of electronic publishing. PassagePRO is an object-oriented open publishing server and integration platform that automates the creation of an enterprise-wide electronic library for the Internet and CD-ROM.

Versant and IONA Provide Integration Between Orbix and Versant's ODBMS. The Orbix+Versant integration will provide customers a consistent way to build applications that take advantage of existing corporate data and the best in object technology.

JANUARY

Sprint Deploys Versant In Distributed Sales Order Management System. Versant's ODBMS serves as the infrastructure to Sprint's Customer Information System Extensions. Used to support Sprint's new order entry processes, Sprint was able to implement object models as complex as its business operations required. The implementation of Versant's ODBMS reduced the time to service activation from 1 to 3 days to as low as 20 minutes.

DECEMBER

Platinum Technologies Partners with Versant For DBVISION. Platinum to deliver Platinum's distributed performance management system, DBVISION, on the Versant ODBMS, providing the first distributed systems management products for object databases.

NOVEMBER

Versant Deployed In Mobile System's Cellular Planning Toolset. Versant provides the core object engine that allows UK-based Mobile Systems International (MSI), to deliver cost-effective network planning solutions to organizations deploying cellular networks worldwide.

OCTOBER

Versant Expands International Presence. Versant widens its customer base and extends local support services with the launch of new European operations in Munich, Germany.

AUGUST

Versant Announces Release 4.0 of its Object Database Server.
Versant announces general availability of new products and services enabling customers to deploy new object applications for business advantages. The major release addresses three critical areas: multi-user performance, server-based event notification and enhanced management utilities.

JUNE

Versant Announces Fault Tolerant Database Server For Continuous Database Operation. Versant introduces its first Fault Tolerant Server, delivering transparent server failover for high-availability database environments. The database server works in conjunction with Release 4.0 of the Versant ODBMS and provides fault tolerance and geographic redundancy without any change to application code.

MAY

ISR Global Telecom Partners with Versant to Become a Value Added Reseller. Versant announces strategic partnership to resell ISR Global Telecom's Global Element Manager and toolkit to telecom service providers and equipment manufactures. The two companies together will expand the market for advanced element and network management systems based on TMN (Telecommunications Management Network) architecture, systems allowing carriers to deploy revenue-bearing services more rapidly across multi-vendor networks.

Ameritech Deploys Versant's ODBMS for Enterprise Application Infrastructure. Versant announces that Ameritech Advanced Data Services has deployed the first phase of an enterprise-wide application infrastructure for business systems using the Versant ODBMS and the Versant Argos Smalltalk Application Development Environment. This initial deployment is comprised of more than 60 business applications, created in less than nine months.

MARCH

Versant to Provide Repository For Informix NewEra Development Tool. Informix Software selects the Versant ODBMS for its NewEra object-oriented development environment. The Versant ODBMS serves as a distributed object repository embedded within NewEra, allowing teams of Informix developers to work collectively and take advantage of object reuse.

Siemens Medical System, Inc. Selects Versant For Worldwide Medical Imaging Application Framework. Versant announces that its ODBMS has been selected for the development of a worldwide Common System Architecture framework to support all of Siemens' medical imaging projects.

Alcatel Selects Versant's ODBMS for HP OpenView-Based Network Management System. A leading supplier of SONET (synchronous optical network) transmissions, switching and network management products, Alcatel Network System has selected Versant's ODBMS for incorporation in its next-generation network management platform. The Telecommunications Management Network product will offer support for element management, allowing service providers to manage the network level aspects of operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning.

FEBRUARY

Versant Wins $4 Million Reengineering Deal with Scotiabank. Versant is awarded a $4 million contract to supply Scotiabank with its Smalltalk-based Versant Argos application development environment and Versant's ODBMS. Under the terms of the agreement Versant will supply the infrastructure for Scotiabank to reengineer its branch systems and strategic applications using object technology to support a new distributed client/server environment.
